Prague Adventures
Hey everyone! Sorry it took me so long to send this. I have already been to Florence and back… but Prague is amazing! There was so much to do and see. Let me tell you about a few of my adventures there…
Prague adventures began at 10 o’clock when 15 of us arrived by train. We knew the address of our hostel but in reality we had no idea where it was. We started off walking in the right direction thanks to directions from some police. We walked passed a man urinating in public, a few people doing weed, and some very nice statues. We did not know where we were going but continued to follow the very general directions we had been given. We ended up crossing a 7-lane street and then walking a mile down the interstate like road. Eventually we ended up in a dark and shady area feeling very lost. Thankfully at that point we met a Czech girl who spoke perfect English and she went into her dorm a few blocks away and looked up the address of our hostel on the Internet then took us to the hostel. She was a complete blessing.
The hostel we stayed in was very nice even if it was far away from the main part of the city. The first night we went to a bar that was close to the hostel called The Cross (or The Cross Club, something like that although I am not sure). It was a very interesting place. When I say interesting, I mean sketchy. I loved the building and the construction of all the furniture. Everything was made from random parts of different machinery and it all looked like it could start moving at any second. We actually met some Americans there who are studying in Prague, so that was interesting. We meet Americans everywhere we go really.
The next day was spent seeing the sights. We saw the clock (and went up the tower), we walked across Charles Bridge, and went to Prague Castle. We also took a boat ride through “Prague Venice.” That seemed like a bad idea at first, but a guy named Elvis from Guinea talked me into it. Elvis was a great guy and the boat ride was a great decision. It was such a small boat that I could reach out and touch the water. We went up and down the river a bit and I learned a little of Prague’s history. Most of the day however was spent walking around, eating Czech food and buying small things (I didn’t buy anything so don’t expect souvenirs).
Saturday night we went to a club near the Charles Bridge. Lots of dancing left everyone pretty tired so Sunday was a very relaxed day. Everyone was tired so we walked some more but at a more leisurely pace. A few people visited some museums and we all ate lunch at TGIFridays. Honestly I did not want to eat there and will refrain from American restaurants for the rest of my time here. I do not miss American food. (I do miss Mexican though. Send me salsa and hot sauce!)
And if anyone has ever seen the movie Eurotrip (I am not recommending it at all) and wants to know about my Eurotrip-like adventures, please ask. Its fun, but I don’t think everyone would like to know.
Hope you enjoy the pictures and are having a great time back in the States!! Be proud of me… I just had a conversation with my host mom in German! Granted the conversation was very short and I said less than she did… but still… five whole minutes of only German! I can totally ask how she is and say that I am sorry she is not feeling well. That’s all I need! I’m working on it. I definitely have to keep working on it because soon she is not going to speak English with us. Ah!
I included some pictures… if you want more, check out my facebook profile. If you want explanations of any pics, let me know. I will send pics from Florence soon… also an amazing city (especially when celebrating Carnivale!)!! I hope everyone has a great week!
