Mission Declutter
I’ve been staying in Oakland with a wonderful blogging friend for the last few days. I had the chance to explore the bay area a bit and had a great time. But instead of blogging about any of that, I want to show the results of a few hours spent organizing her home office while I was here.

Oddly enough, I like to clean and organize. My adventures into living minimally and without clutter have pushed me towards doing the same for other people and enjoying the process. I love tackling a project like this that feels overwhelming (which is why it hasn’t been done already) and leaving the space useable and clean. And it’s so nice when the person appreciates the final result. Perhaps I have a future as a professional organizer?

Oh my gosh, PLEASE COME TO MY HOUSE. What an amazing before & after!
Good work, Mary! If you’re ever passing through Ireland, my study awaits your skills.
holy moly, whens your next trip to sydney australia?
Great job! Niecy Nash would be proud.
I desperately need your services. Any chance you can swing by Boston before you move out of the country?
Oooh, so many clients already! HAHA! Thanks guys! I wish I was headed to any of those places soon. I’ll let ya know if I ever do. ;)

You could make a living doing that!
She could SO make a living doing this. Because I have a TERRIBLE (as you can see) problem with clutter, I have actually hired many declutterers/organizers over the years, and Mary was better than all of them put together. For real.
Thanks for the new career path! :)
I have a feeling hosts will be lining up on your cross-country tour, in hopes that you’ll do equally amazing things to their own spaces. Great results! I think you do have a potential future career as a professional organizer. I’m with you–I love doing it, and I actually find it quite peaceful and relaxing. My bf jokes that he can tell when I’m upset because I’m typically quietly and deliberately re-arranging the house.
Lol the before photos are like my house. It shows what a messy person I am that I looked at the before and after photos and thought oh no now mary’s friend will NEVER be able to find anything now that it’s all put away! Lol. What looks like a mess at my house and work really mean I know where most things are.
The amazing thing is that now I CAN find everything. Everything is findable, organized, in beautiful categories, and stuff has emerged that I thought was forever gone! SHE IS AMAZING.
I actually met a woman while traveling this last week who IS a professional organizer! Her name’s Nancy, and she explained how the career has really grown in the last few years, though it did take a hit in the recession. Either way – funny to have heard that job mentioned twice this week! from your photos, clearly you’d be amazing at that!
